What do you need to know...

  • You need some basic knowledge of ZBrush and Photoshop
  • A working copy of ZBrush and Photoshop (Krita can be used as an alternative to Photoshop).
  • A drawing tablet is strongly recommended.
  • This intensive course was created using the video recordings from the 'Live' version of the ZBrush for illustrators workshop.

A 'sneak peak' into the structure of the course.

Remember that the content was structured to fit an intensive 5-day workshop but you can go at your own pace if you need to take more time and re-watch some lessons.

Pablo's course wasn't focused around trendy styles or 'quick grab-bag' techniques but rather helped build on my design...
undamentals, strengthen my process, and really helped me start to produce 3D imagery that I was extremely proud of. After learning 3D workflows on my own for the past 3 years, his class stood out to me for the fundamental principles he shares that I can continue to follow throughout my design career and improve upon.

I have learnt so much from this course and he's simply the best at what he does. 10/10 experience for meand sure all of my colleagues would agree.
I first discovered Pablo's brilliance during one of the zbrush summits on youtube and the way he demonstrated his techniques and tips was extremely clear and precise. So I became a fan right there and have been following his work ever since. So when I saw that he was holding an online class (zbrush for illustrators) I immediately subscribed to it and it was everything I anticipated and more , being very structured and detailed full of precious gems. I am now subscribed to THE EXTRA MILE course and it's absolutely brilliant.

The course was great! I learned a lot about NPR rendering.
Pablo is very clear in his tutorials, and above all, I liked the approach and the organization of the course. Not only teach ZBrush but also how to organize and plan your work step by step. From the idea, mood boards, thumbnail to the final render, and compositing. Planning and organization are in my opinion extremely important, especially in a production environment.

ZBrush for illustrators has been one of the best online workshop that I've had the pleasure to be part of.
Pablo is an excellent teacher, thorough, engaging and clear even when explaining complex concepts. The presentation of the material was impeccable. The course was not a mere step by step tutorial but an effective demonstration of how to think outside of the box. Pablo' solutions are original and you learn how to use the tools at your disposal to develop your unique workflow.

FAQs

I'm a beginner, would this work for me?

Although I go through all the concepts from the beginning and explain the features I use, it is advisable to have a basic knowledge of ZBrush and Photoshop.

Basic knowledge of ZBrush in the context of this course refers to:

  • Being comfortable with navigation and User Interface.
  • Being familiar with the main features such as 'subdivisions', 'Dynamesh', the brush system, etc

Basic knowledge of Photoshop in the context of this course refers to:

  • Being proficient with the use of layers, masks and selection tools in Photoshop
What exactly is covered in the lessons?

I walk you throughout the entire pipeline (pre-production, production and post-production stages) and personal tools I use to create a comic style illustration:

Pre-Production:

Planing, References, folder structure, inspiration & modboard, Sketching and concept, material testing, sculpting techniques for 2D comic style.

Production:

Asset creation, custom resources, block assets, blocking a scene, sculpting details, sculpting brushes, 3D layout and composition, NPR filers, render settings, Document setup, render passes.

Post-Production:

Render testing, compositing render passes for linework, document setup for colouring, masking and selections from 3D work, Colouring, colour correction and textures.

Can I work on my own concept?

Absolutely, I encourage you to try and produce your own ideas, but you can also follow the concept I made to create the final illustration.

The whole purpose of this course is to provide you with the tools, steps and a system that can be reproduce on any project you want to tackle... so the 'subject' and 'theme' are totally up to you!

What's the difference with the 'live' workshop?

The main difference between the intensive course and the previous live workshop is purely the 'live' or 'interactive' aspect between me and the attendees of the original 'live workshop'.

The recordings contain EVERYTHING that was covered in the workshop including answering questions from the students, so you won't be missing anything.

What software do I need?

The two software that are essential to successfully complete the intensive course are: ZBrush and Photoshop.

I also use Krita (free illustration software) to demonstrate additional techniques for sketching.

Other apps/software I use are PureRef to organise references and EpicPen to draw on the screen and take notes.

How many hours of content?

There are 10 core lessons in the course and each video is around 90 minutes (some are a bit longer).

In total you get around 15 hours of content plus the additional bonus videos.
