Sand Dunes Nosie Maker Voronoi

For this tip, I’m going to show you how to create some sand dunes in ZBrush for a desert environment in just a few clicks and get something like this:

Sand Dunes Nosie Maker Voronoi

I know this might seem like another random tip, but actually I’ve been working on a mini tutorial series covering the creation of a DUNE fanart poster so I’m sharing this tip as a sneak preview of what is coming soon in a video tutorial format:

Alright so this is litterally a 4 steps process… so:

STEP 1: Take a simple plane 3D and divide it a bit to have some resolution.

STEP 2: Enable the noise from the Surface Palette, Enable the NoisePlug switch to bring the popup window and choose Voronoi:

STEP 3: To visualise the effect of the Voronoi noise, tweak the sliders from the NoiseMaker window by setting everything to a value of 0, except the strength at roughly 0.1 and the Plugin scale at 0.5 - Once you happy with the look, press ok:

STEP 4: Now you can click the ‘Apply To Mesh’ button from the surface palette and the effect will deform the geometry to create the bases for the sand dunes! (if the effect is too strong or not enough, simply undo and edit the noise to add more strength before applying it).

At this point you have the bases for the sand dunes so all that is left to do is polish the surface. You can go to a lower subdivision level and use the Polish slider from the Deformation palette and press the ClayPolish button from the grometry palette a few times:

That’s about it really. keep in mind that you can always add a bit of polypaint and replicate the same steps but using a different noise type to create additional patterns and effects to detail the sand dunes:
